Confirmation
Confirmation is a special service in which a person confirms the promises that were made when they were baptized (christened). If you were baptized at a christening when you were a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf.
As a young person or adult (13 years old or over), you may be ready to affirm these promises for yourself and commit your life to following Jesus Christ. At a confirmation service, you make these promises for yourself. For some people, who have not previously been prepared for First Holy Communion as a child, this will be the first time you receive communion.
Your friends and family as well as the local Christian community will be there to promise to support and pray for you. The local bishop will lay their hands on your head and ask God’s Holy Spirit to give you the strength and commitment to live God’s way for the rest of your life.

If you were not baptized as a child and want to make a commitment of faith, you can be baptized and confirmed in the same service. You will also, in most cases, receive Holy Communion for the first time.

For both young people over the age of 13 years old and for adults, we run separate annual confirmation classes to prepare you to make a fully informed and wholehearted decision to be confirmed.
For adults, this usually takes the form of 5 evening classes and meeting with a sponsor, someone from the church who will support you and share their own experience about faith. For children, the class will take place after the services on a Sunday and there is a day out hiking.
