Welcome to St George's, Chichester
Serving God and the community
Join us for worship: 10am Choral Parish Eucharist each Sunday
We are a Church of England parish open to everyone and serving the spiritual needs of all who live in Whyke, Rumboldswyke, Portfield and parts of Shopwyke in the South East of Chichester.
We are a friendly family church, welcoming people from all backgrounds and ages. We seek to be a school of loving service for adults and children alike in which, amid the challenges and joys of our times, we learn in our daily lives and relationships to give glory to God who is love as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Our mission is to do this through reverent and generous worship, which draws on the wellspring of Anglican spirituality and choral music, and by building up the common good and each person’s dignity and freedom in our local context. We hope that all may flourish and delight in the beauty, goodness and truth of God’s love as revealed in Jesus Christ and in a more humane, just and sustainable world.

At the heart of who we are lies the joy of the gospel • the beauty of holiness • the living word of scripture • the life of prayer • sacramental worship centred on baptism and eucharist • a generous faith that feeds discovery, conscience, creativity and friendship • a celebration of human diversity and community • a dedication to service in partnership with others • and a hospitality extended to all

Children at St George's
Children and families are very welcome at St George's. We offer a wide range of activities including children's provision on Sundays (split into three different age groups), our All-Age Eucharist, opportunities to serve and assist during the main Eucharist on Sundays, the children's choir, youth group for teenagers, community volunteering roles, and events through the year. These are led by our Rector, Youth Worker, our Director of the Children's Choir, head server, and several experienced volunteers who are all trained with safeguarding checks in place.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
At 2pm each Tuesday during Lent (24 February - 24 March), a service of the Stations of the Cross will take place in the church, ending with a short period of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Lady Chapel.
All are welcome to this meditative service.
Holy Week and Easter
The celebration of Christ's death and resurrection at Easter is the epicentre and pattern of all Christian worship and life. Easter is the heart of the Christian faith from which radiates the light of God's transformative love that shines out in the lives of all who bear witness to Christ. Easter comes as the culmination of Holy Week which begins with the celebration of Palm Sunday and moves to encompass the holiest three days of the Christian calendar, the so-called Triduum ('three days'). These are Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday which leads into Easter Sunday.

Easter Vigil Feast
Families and children are encouraged to attend the Easter Vigil and experience its richness and mystery. Children participate in key moments of the liturgy and after the service there is an Easter barbeque feast with activities for children, a film, and sleepover for older children, ready for Easter Sunday and an Easter Egg hunt.
Blessed are those who are called to his supper

At St George's, worship of God is the centre and source of our life and mission, and celebrated as what each thing does in its very being and as the ultimate fulfilment of human freedom. Our liturgy is rooted in the scriptures, the sacraments of baptism and the eucharist, and the Church of England's reformed catholic tradition. The signs and symbols of our words, silences, gestures, roles and offerings of bread and wine, as well as our fellowship with others and active participation in repentance, praise and thanksgiving - with body, heart, mind and soul - all become, through the Holy Spirit, the means of grace by which we encounter God and are made partakers of the divine nature.
In worship, the more we open ourselves to God, the more we enter into communion with others and all things, and the more we become who and what we are in our difference from God.
Such worship is shaped by a deep sense of wonder. Wonder at the fundamental beauty, goodness and truth of everything that exists and existence itself as the gift of sharing in God's own act of being. Wonder at God, the One who is, was and always will be, in whom we live, move and have our being. And wonder at Jesus Christ who, as God made flesh, reveals God's being to be love through the free gift of himself on the cross for our sake; the mystery of his death, resurrection and ascension; his victory over sin, death and evil; his full humanity and full divinity united without confusion, change, division or separation in his person; his real presence in the eucharist; and his invitation, through the Holy Spirit, for us to grow into the fullness of our humanity in service of the world's transformation by sharing in God's endlessly self-giving life of love as Trinity.
